SUMMARY

DETAILS
The Six Foot Track is an iconic Blue Mountains trail. The Gundungurra people used the Six Foot Track pathways and travel routes as part of their life cycle journeys.  The Gundungurra people also carried their sick family members over long distances to the healing alkaline waters in the Jenolan Caves and Alum Springs Creek.  The trails were also used by wild brumbies and from around 1880 they were used as bridle trails for settlers and miners to lead horses with supplies into the Megalong Valley.   Years later it was intended to carry horse-drawn coaches to transport supplies and people to the Jenolan Caves. However, this was a fiasco and never eventuated due to the challenging environment.

We will be walking from the access road at Jenolan Caves to Katoomba.  We get to our start point by group shuttle bus from Katoomba, from there we will commence walking. We will stay one night at Black Range campground, the second night we will camp at the Coxs River Campground, and lastly on the third day we will walk into Katoomba via stairs at Nellies Glen.  We will be walking through National Parks, farmlands and about 10 or more flowing creeks and rivers of varying depths.  We will have to walk across a timber bridge to get over the Coxs River because the Bowtels Swing Bridge is closed for maintenance.  All up it’s about 45km.

We may need to share jet boils and gas canisters depending on the number of participants who do not have their own cooking equipment.  If you are a participant who does not have cooking equipment, please contact Rosie after you have registered.

This adventure has not been planned in minute detail, nor the route checked recently. Participants join with this knowledge and with an attitude of taking things as they come and working together through any issues.

NBREA have organised the shuttle bus and have booked the campsites.  The cost of the bus charter will be equally divided between participants. There are no fees for the campsites.
