ADVENTURE REPORT
Les, Carlene, Dyese and Rosie adventured out to Lockley Pylon in the Blue Mountains. Lockley Pylon is a distinctive peak that overlooks Govetts Gorge in the Grose Valley. Lockey Pylon is named after the Sydney Morning Herald journalist J.G. Lockley, who played a key role in saving the Blue Gum Forest in the 1930s.
Our journey started by navigating a 10-kilometre winding dirt road to reach the trailhead. The walk to Lockley’s took us via the Pinnacles and Mt Stead, crossing a large area of heath at altitude. We had consistently breathtaking views that showcased the Blue Mountains in an array of blue hues and stretched far into the horizon.

As the mountains presented their blue hues, the acacia trees showcased their vibrant yellow, spherical clusters of flowers along the path. We found ancient Aboriginal grinding stones and interesting rock faces shaped by wind erosion.

From the vantage point at Fortress Rock, the view was nothing short of magical. Far below, the river carved its path through the ancient cliffs, and a waterfall caught the sun, casting a radiant rainbow across the mist. In that moment, the grandeur of the wilderness filled us with awe and a profound sense of possibility, reminding us of the beauty that awaits those willing to seek it out.

Reaching the summit of Lockley Pylon, we stood suspended between sky and gorge, the world unfurling in every direction: sheer cliffs plunging into emerald forest depths, the river glinting like a silver ribbon, and distant peaks softened by the haze of endless blue.

We eventually returned a little wind burnt and still warmly bundled up in our jumpers and jackets. It was hard to leave such a spectacular place, although I know the mountains will patiently wait for our return. Well done Les, Dyese and Carlene. It was a memorable walk, filled with camaraderie and shared moments.
Until next time.
Yours in adventure, Rosie
