ADVENTURE REPORT
Last Sunday was a great day for walking. What day isn’t?
21 walkers including 2 newbies came from the Central Coast, the Shire, the Mountains, the Burbs, and down the street, to walk the picturesque Parramatta River foreshores of Ryde and Concord.
The route was flat and easy and was dominated by the story and legacy of the Dame Edith Walker Estate in Concord … Yaralla House, the old Thomas Walker Convalescent Hospital, and the path along the southern riverside fringe. The estate is an amazing story of a 38 hectare sparsely developed property bequeathed to the NSW government for benevolent heath purposes only, by the daughter of an 1840s Scottish business man.
Other walk highlights included the Kokoda Memorial Trail, the old Commonwealth dockyards, McIlwaine Park & beach, the old rusty railway bridge turned pedestrian cycle way, the site of James Squires first brewery, and the last remaining car ferry across the Parramatta River. We shared Christmas treats, lunch and laughter in Putney Park too.
After 14 odd km and a day that was starting to warm up and become muggy, drinks in the Palace Hotel in Mortlake was a great conclusion. In fact a walk that starts at a cafe and finishes at a pub is probably perfect.

An enjoyable walk was had by all. Well done Marian, Bernadette, Megan, Carlene, Rosie, Jacquie, Peter, Narelle, Carmel, Mary-Lou, Jenny, Les, Sharon, Cathy, Sue, Kaye, Eileen, Richard, Marina, and Haidee,
Yours in adventure Nick
