ADVENTURE REPORT
17 walkers enjoyed the Multiday Harbour to Hawkesbury Adventure from Manly to Brooklyn. We finished last Tuesday after some 93km and 2,950m of elevation gain over 5 days. 3 walked every day. A further 11 walked 2 or more days. 8 or more walked each day.It was quite a technical walk in spots with lots of rock scrambling, bum sliding and path negotiating at times. Long legs was an advantage. Squeezing between rock faces, scaling large random rock steps, negotiating spiderweb like networks of tree roots, crossing slippery creeks, using metal stirrup handles to scale rocks was all part of the obstacle course we traveled. This was interspersed with stretches of beautiful bush tracks, towering sandstone overhangs, secluded coves and beaches, wildflowers, and amazing views. We hugged the shorelines of Sydney Harbour, Middle Harbour, Cowan Creek, Berowra Creek, and the Hawkesbury River, and when these ran out, we scaled the hills seperating them. Quiet tracks, empty coves, and babbling streams were dotted along our rambling path. Leeches and ticks were active too and seemed keen to join in on the adventure.

We moved accommodation three times along the route, so this meant carrying full packs on 2 days. Some chose to carry their full packs everyday.

Many remarked it was their most difficult walk, but quickly added that they enjoyed it and were happy to have pushed themselves and to find that extra hidden capacity. Although the going was slow in parts, everyone travelled as one, assisting, guiding and encouraging each other along the way. Shared accommodation and meals added to the friendship and bonding.

Well done Diane, Ann, Terry, Narelle, SusanC, Marina, BruceR, Sandra, JennyA, Mark, Marian, Bernadette, Eileen, Richard, Mary-Lou, Rosie, and Nick.

You are all H2H Legends !!!

Yours in adventure Nick and Rosie

SUMMARY

DETAILS
The standard “Harbour to Hawkesbury” is a well known bushwalk route in Sydney’s north from Manly to Berowra Waters, passing through the Garigal, Ku-ring-gai Chase and Berowra Valley National Parks through a variety of terrain. We have extended it a further day to finish in Brooklyn. All up it’s about 86km.

This adventure has not been planned in minute detail, nor the route checked. Participants join with this knowledge and with an attitude of taking things as they come and working together through any issues.

An end to end plan has been put together and a list of resources collated. The information is here.

Depending on the extend of interest, common accommodation can be organized.

Participants are responsible for all accommodation, food and transport costs.
