ADVENTURE REPORT
Yesterday morning’s adventure was shared by Megan, Mary, BruceR, Jenny, Susan, Rob, Cathy and myself, and took us to both new and well known places on the Lower North Shore as we walked the 11km route from Waverton Station to Neutral Bay Wharf.
We enjoyed quite paths, secluded parks, broadwalks over water, lush, cool & inviting gardens, industrial relics, deserted repurposed defence facilities, a community succulent garden, incredible river, city & bridge views, thrawted & questionable urban developments, grand Morten Bay fig trees with trunks & roots that flowed down rock walls, one seemingly devouring a wall, a secluded hidden beach, an unlikely airstrip, and grand property & apartment blocks with million dollar views.
We took in the streets around Kirrabilli that were bursting with colour with jacaranda trees in full and vibrant bloom. Spotted occasionally amongst them were fiery red flame trees competing for the attention & photographs of the many locals and tourists enjoying the show. The weather turned it on too with many of us probably slightly tinged by the end.
Morning tea in Wendy Whiteley’s garden, and a quick lunch at the end kept our batteries charged. The adventure concluded with a refreshing open deck ferry ride back to Circular Quay.
Thanks everyone for a great morning. And in case you’re wondering, this report was not created by ChatGPT but only with the assistance of a glass or two of red wine last night (in joke/discussion) 🍷.

ADVENTURE DETAILS
A very interesting urban walk of about 11km around Blues Point, McMahons Point, Kirrabilli and Neutral Bay. Highlights a plenty with beautiful harbour vistas, a sunken barge, an avenue of flowering Jacarandas, Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden, the old Naval Base HMAS Platypus and torpedo manufacturing workshop, an unlikely airstrip, and a hidden beach !!! An easy to medium walk, hilly, and virtually all on concrete paths. It should take about 3 to 4 hours to complete.
The Meetup Point and start is at Waverton Station, tap the link below for directions. There is a cafe next to the station for those needing a pre-walk fix. Please bring snacks for morning tea that we’ll enjoy in the Secret Garden. We finish at Neutral Bay Ferry Wharf. Here there are cafe options to share lunch if anyone wants to partake.
To get back to the start is a 3km direct walk or the more pleasant option is to take a ferry ride to Circular Quay then train (platform 1) to Wynyard changing to another train (platform 4) to Waverton. Don’t forget to bring your Opal card.
