Past adventure.

ADVENTURE REPORT
Our 52nd adventure last Sunday was a 12.5km bush and urban walk on Sydney’s lower north shore. 10 walkers were involved, 2 being newbies, and our rendezvous point was a cafe near Waverton Station. After a caffeine fix and because the walk started and finished at two different train stations, we then took a short train journey to our start.

The walk itself consisted of a number of hidden & pretty green corridors and harbourside bush tracks & paths all linked together by short bursts of quiet suburban streets. It was hilly, picturesque, and quiet. Several remarked how unexpected the bush sections were given it was so close to the densely urbanised center of Sydney.

Highlights included …
* The old & overgrown Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery in St Leonards whose most famous resident for a short time was Mary McKillop. We discovered she was later moved to a memorial chapel in her name in North Sydney.

* The pretty bush tracks around Gore Creek and Lane Cove Golf Course which meandered their way south through Lane Cove & Northwood to the harbour.
* Going back to our mischievous childhoods and walking under a major road through a large stormwater pipe. (Don’t worry, stone steps & a track lead to the pipe, it was a short tunnel, and the creek was only a slow trickle at that point.)

* A large aboriginal rock carving on Berry Island.
* And finally, the harbourside bush tracks & paths, amazing river and city views, and the beautiful, old & characterful houses around Greenwich, Manns Point, and Berry Island that didn’t disappoint.

After our leisurely four and a quarter hour walk we arrived back in Waverton. Refreshments and some life histories were shared over a yummy lunch by those who stayed on.

It was a great morning with great company and perfect walking weather. Well done BruceR, Grace, KayeW, Michelle, Narelle, Robert, Sharon, Steve, and Sue.
Until next time …
Yours in adventure Nick
