Hiking the Cradle Mountain Signature Walk in Tasmania is a unique and exhilarating opportunity for NBREA enthusiasts. This is the iconic Overland Track from Cradle Mountain to Lake St.Clair and is world famous. It is also in high demand so booking early for 15 December 2026 is necessary or you will miss out.
NBREA is utilising The Tasmanian Walking Company for this adventure. This is so we can be sure to access the huts along the track, and to reduce the amount of pack weight one would normally carry on this adventure. The Tasmanian Walking Company offers a wonderful experience with full catering, experienced guides, National Park passes and added extras.
NBREA has secured at reservation for the dates and a 10% discount if 12 participants join up. The reservation hold expires on 28/11/2025.

Duration: 7 days 6 nights plus 2 days for travel.
Distance: 65 km
Where: Cradle Mountain World Heritage National Park, Tasmania.
Accommodation: A heritage inn, private huts and standing camps.
What to expect: Wombats, jaw dropping, ice-carved mountains, windswept moors, pristine alpine lakes, forests, board walks, rocky paths, four seasons in a day, delicious food and great company.
You will be required to carry a backpack of around 10kg.
There are no multiple side trips but there is an opportunity on Day 4 to summit Mount Ossa.
Getting to Launceston:
Plan to be in Launceston by Tuesday 15 Dec 2026 or earlier. There is a walk briefing at 5pm on Tuesday 15 Dec that you must attend at Red Feather Inn in Hadspen.
Please do not leave travel plans till the last minute.
Fitness Level:
If you are consistently active, can hike an average of 10km for 6 consecutive days and are comfortable with stairs, hills, rough tracks, some scrambling and unpredictable weather while carrying a back pack you’ll be fine. If you choose to summit Mount Ossa then you should do extra strength and elevation training.
What’s included:
- Return transfers between Red Feather Inn at the start/finish of the walk
- Optional drop off at Launceston airport and central Launceston CBD on day 7
- Accommodation and dinner the night before commencing your walk at Red Feather Inn
- Accommodation twin share in private huts or standing camp
- All meals and non-alcoholic beverages plus a limited selection of Tasmanian wines
- National Park and Overland Track passes
- Boat transfer across Lake St Clair (on day 7 only)
- Use of backpack and Gore-tex jacket for the duration of the walk
- Sleeping bags, pillows and a comfortable mattress in each hut
- Sleeping sheet and pillow case to carry with you
- Two qualified guides for the duration of the walk
Gear List:
The items on the gear list will be packed into your pack (provided) and carried by you on the 6 days participants carry gear.
Provided gear includes:
- A high quality 50L backpack available at walker briefing
- Rain jacket (3 layer membrane, waterproof and breathable)
- Pack cover and pack liner
- Sleeping sheet and pillow case
- Lunch container and cutlery
- Basic toiletries
- Hut libraries
Footwear:
Participants are required to wear above the ankle hiking boots, preferably waterproof.
Responsibility:
Participants arrange, book and pay for the 7 day Cradle Mountain Signature Walk and any other expenses including transport, additional accommodation, food, beverages, medical expenses and emergency evacuation.
Travel insurance is highly recommended.
Due to the remoteness of the location, participants will be required to answer some medical questions asked by the Tasmanian Walking Company and in some cases, individuals may be asked to complete a form with their GP.
The total cost of the 7 day Cradle Mountain Signature Walk is $4795.00 to be paid to The Tasmanian Walking Company at their website https://www.taswalkingco.com.au
Registrants are not required to pay the full amount immediately. Instead, NBREA is required to submit to The Tasmanian Walking Company each registered member’s full name, date of birth, email address and telephone number. The Tasmanian Walking Company will then email each registered member details of how to pay their $500.00 deposit and their final balance will be due 90 days before departure.
